Labour’s taking action on what voters say is important on the doorstep.

Today’s council budget meeting shows exactly what listening to residents and making responsible choices can deliver.

Cllr Charlotte Gerada, Leader of the Labour Group said:

“Labour councillors in Portsmouth put forward amendments rooted in what people have been telling us they want to see action on: safer streets, stronger communities and better facilities for families and I’m proud to say we secured real wins across the city.

This stands in stark contrast to the reckless approach taken by Reform councillors, who attempted to slash millions of pounds to fund council services just to offer households a £24-a-year council tax cut.

That kind of short-term thinking would put vital services at risk and leave Portsmouth worse off in the long run. Their proposals were reckless and childish.

Our local work also sits alongside the major investment Labour MPs have secured for Portsmouth£40 million in Pride in Place funding for Landport and Paulsgrove, investment to upgrade the naval base to create good jobs for the future, and millions in additional government funding for our council over the next three years. “

There’s been a huge amount delivered already and there’s still much more to do.
