Portsmouth Labour Party Standing up for you and our city
Hundreds of residents contacted Cllr Asghar Shah about the traffic chaos in Cosham, particularly affecting the Highbury Estate. The gas company, SGN, was undertaking works and Cosham residents, particularly Highbury estate residents, have been facing huge traffic delays on a daily basis.
Cllr Shah organised a meeting between all stakeholders and it was agreed that a revised traffic plan would be put in place to ease the congestion. Cllr Shah then monitored traffic around the estate the following day and gave feedback to the Portsmouth City Council Cabinet Member and other concerned departments. They agreed to monitor the situation over the weekend, and will see what next can be done to improve the situation further.
The gas work has to be done, so the problems can’t be entirely resolved until the works are completed. However Cllr Shah has requested that when SGN are planning work in the future, an advance meeting will help avoid this kind of traffic chaos again.
