Stephen Morgan, Member of Parliament for Portsmouth South said:

“We are proud of the positive campaign we ran, focused on the issues of concern to local people and turning the page after fourteen years of decline under the Conservative Party.

“These elections have been about offering our city change. A choice between Labour’s plan to make Portsmouth fairer, safer and greener, or the Lib Dems presiding over a council in the bottom ten percent in the country for its performance.

“As we saw with Labour winning the popular vote last night, Portsmouth people are ambitious for our city. I will continue to work with others to deliver that ambition for everyone”.

On Labour’s win in Blackpool South, Stephen Morgan MP added:

“The biggest indicator of the night for the next general election was Labour’s historic by-election win in Blackpool South, caused by yet more Tory chaos and scandal where voters had the opportunity to directly reject Rishi Sunak’s party in Westminster and choose Labour. The people of Blackpool resoundingly did so.

“Encouragingly, across the country Labour has also made significant gains that show we’re making progress in the places we need to win the next general election and we are firmly back in the service of working people.”
