Many residents are concerned about their safety in our city. The loss of over 1,000 police officers to Hampshire because of Conservative cuts is widely felt.

This is on top of an increase in anti-social behaviour, fly-tipping and more feeling unsafe in public places across Portsmouth.

Labour councillors and candidates have joined Stephen Morgan MP’s campaign to bring back more bobbies on the beat and work with local residents to make our neighbourhoods a safer place to live. We pledge to:

• Invest in measures to reduce pollution, increase road safety and make it easier to walk, cycle and scoot – with School Streets, Play Streets, Active Pompey Neighbourhoods, traffic calming measures and 20mph Zones
• Create a dedicated ‘Safer Neighbourhoods Fund’, to consult residents for ideas about schemes to make our local areas safer
• Put police back in town centres and neighbourhoods to make our streets safe again, with increased patrols and 13,000 more neighbourhood police and PCSOs
• Tackle rogue landlords through better regulation for renters
• Ensure public toilets are open, clean and accessible to all across the city and increase the number of accessible Changing Places toilets
• Improve safety for women around the city and tackle hate crime by increasing street lighting, improving the built environment and championing diversity
