More about Cal…

Cal has lived in Portsmouth almost all his life, attending council run schools and youth services before going on to work for the council and local charities in a range of housing and support roles.

It is his experience at the frontline of local public services, both as a user and a worker, that has led to an appreciation of the important role they play in developing cohesive and secure communities.

As someone who works and lives in social housing, Cal has a passion for campaigning on housing issues. Whether it’s lobbying for improved services for rough sleepers or ensuring private developers aren’t allowed to shirk their affordable housing obligations, he is often at the forefront of local initiatives to tackle the housing crisis.

Key to good quality public services is a workforce that is afforded fair treatment and decent pay and conditions. That is why Cal became the trade union rep in his workplace; a role which sees him represent colleagues in meetings, negotiate with management and campaign for improved conditions for working people.

Cal is standing in Charles Dickens, a ward where he has strong links to the local community. In addition to living and working in the ward he has a proven track record of supporting friends, family, neighbours, community groups and trade union branches to fight for a better deal for local residents.
