Councillor Judith Smyth is a Labour Councillor for St Jude ward in Portsmouth and was elected in May 2018. Judith is Labour’s Spokesperson for Children, Families and Education and is responsible for ensuring Portsmouth City Council maintains high stands in education and its services for young people and families, including for youth social care. Judith is Labour’s Spokesperson for Planning Policy & City Development and is a member of the Planning Committee, which makes decisions about contentious planning applications for the city, such as for new housing developments. Judith is also a member of the Education Advisory Board, Health Overview & Scrutiny Panel and the Schools Forum. Judith is the Chief Whip and Secretary leading on the administration of the Portsmouth Labour Group.
Judith holds several roles on external bodies, including for the Children’s Trust Board, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Local Government Association, the Partnership for South Hampshire (Formerly PUSH) (Overview and Scrutiny Committee) and the Port Advisory Board.
Outside of formal council roles, Judith is an active grandparent, enthusiastic sea swimmer and walker, is a member of GMB and Unite unions and is a longstanding member of Portsmouth Choral Union.
Judith runs a monthly ward surgery on every third Saturday of every month from 10am to 12 noon at Southsea Library.
