Cllr George Fielding is a Labour Councillor for Central Southsea ward in Portsmouth and was elected in May 2018, then re-elected in May 2022. George is Opposition Spokesperson for Culture, Leisure and Economic Development and is the Chair of the Economic Development, Culture and Leisure Scrutiny Panel. In these roles, George holds the administration to account for their plans and strategies in relation to culture and leisure in Portsmouth and champions improvements to the city’s cultural, leisure and tourism offer. George is also a member of the Planning Committee, which takes a lead on approving planning applications for the city, such as for new housing developments. 

 

George has appointments to external bodies, including for the Local Government Association, Safer Portsmouth Partnership and City of Portsmouth Sports Council.

 

Outside of formal council roles, George is a local solicitor, a school governor for Priory School, is Portsmouth Labour’s LGBT+ Officer and is an active member of the GMB Union. 

 

George runs a monthly ward surgery with Cllr Charlotte Gerada, on the fourth Saturday of the month (excluding August) at St Margaret’s Community Church Hall, Highland Road, Southsea, PO4 9DD from 10am to 12 noon.
