Cllr George Fielding is a Labour Councillor for Central Southsea ward in Portsmouth and was elected in May 2018. George is Leader of the Labour Group, responsible for the strategic leadership of Portsmouth Labour Councillors and holding the Council Leader to account for key decisions. George is the Chair of the Economic Development, Culture and Leisure Scrutiny Panel and is Labour’s Spokesperson for Communities and Central Services. George is a member of the Planning Committee, which takes a lead on approving planning applications for the city, such as for new housing developments. George also has appointments to external bodies, including for the Local Government Association and the Safer Portsmouth Partnership.
Outside of formal council roles, George is a local solicitor, a school governor for Priory School, is Portsmouth Labour’s LGBT+ Officer and is an active member of the GMB Union.
George runs a monthly ward surgery with Cllr Charlotte Gerada, on the third Saturday of the month (excluding August) at St Margaret’s Community Church, Highland Road, Southsea, PO4 9DD from 10am to 12 noon.
