Nicky was born and brought up in Portsmouth and lived in the area all her life. She worked in education at a Further Education college. She was responsible for identifying any additional support students needed in the classroom and ensured this was put in place. Since retiring from the college 10 years ago Nicky has volunteered with a number of organisations supporting people who need extra help in life.

At Citizens Advice Nicky provided general advice on benefits, employment rights and many other issues. She also supported people with their benefit appeals and tribunal hearings.

Nicky has also helped support young people with addiction issues.

More recently, Nicky has volunteered for the Good Mental Health Co-operative organising creative activities for women. She is now a Wellbeing Walk Volunteer and food bank helper.

Nicky believes working with these organisations has given her a real insight into the issues people have to deal with.

“I have the skills and experience to be a councillor together with an understanding of the issues people face every day. I would welcome the opportunity to help to improve life for people in Hilsea and across Portsmouth. Inequalities in health and education are a particular concern for me. I feel passionately that our seawater should be cleaned up so that is safe for people to swim, and the provision of swimming facilities across the city really needs to be addressed.”
