Ian is passionate about Portsmouth as a truly unique city, being the most densely populated city outside London and with its strong connections to the sea. Ian has lived and worked here for 40 years and settled in Drayton 27 years ago.

Ian has worked with many local organisations including housing associations and charities such as Age UK. His work has involved dealing with home energy efficiency, environmental improvements and fundraising.

Ian volunteered at vaccination clinics during the pandemic and is also involved in the local park run at Lakeside. Volunteering as a path warden helps ensure local rights of way are not lost.

Ian says, ‘I believe in a sense of community and the need for politicians to stay in touch with the needs of the general population. So many valuable community resources have been lost under this government with no thought to the consequences for people’.

Ian believes there are some key issues for Drayton and Farlington.

  • Holding Southern Water to account over their management of waste water and their plans to run a supply pipeline along the slopes of Portsdown Hill.
  • Provision of secure affordable housing in all areas of the city.
  • Promotion of new building in sustainable areas and adapting dwellings to climate change. This means improved drainage systems and permeable paving to reduce pollution and flooding and solar panels to provide more secure energy.
  • Making the case for the future of Farlington Marshes and renewed investment in the sea wall.

Ian says “Our precious green spaces need to be protected and improved. They are so important for our physical and mental health.”
