Paula Ann Savage our Milton campaigner

Paula was born in Portsmouth, grew up in Milton, went to the local schools and later studied Music at South Downs College.  Furthering her education later on in life as a mature student, she gained a BA Hons degree and a MA (Masters) degree. Paula is a local Milton resident and mother of two teenage children who both have enjoyed Milton and Bransbury parks all their young lives, Beddow Library, mother and toddler groups, fetes and fayres and have both attended local schools.

This is why Paula has a particular interest in education and making sure it’s accessible for all ages. Along with education, Paula is also passionate about small businesses particularly those in the Milton area. Paula said;

‘I’m passionate about Milton village having been the proprietor of numerous small shops myself and I understand the pressures and difficulties faced by small independent businesses. In order for a business to flourish it is important to gain support from the local community and council to ensure it’s doing all it can to support small business’.

Currently working in the community as a music teacher, Paula gives lessons to singers and beginners in guitar across all age ranges. She knows first hand about how the cuts to education are hitting the arts, music and design curriculum in our city’s schools. Paula added;

‘This is a very enjoyable job. I care deeply about being able to be creative and express ourselves. As a parent I believe our children’s education is and should always be paramount. I will continue to campaign on a local and national level on behalf of our schools to make sure that they receive the resources they need’.

Paula is also a fierce and firm believer in ‘ambitious action’ regarding climate change. As we know, Portsmouth is the most densely populated city in the UK after London, with Milton having some areas that have a high volume of road traffic causing hotspots for air pollution. Paula said;

‘I will continually campaign for cleaner air and solutions to combat this ever-growing risk to all our health and the planet. I am currently working on our plan for Portsmouth and exploring ideas of how we can act in reducing the impact of environmental change in our area’.
