Councillor Judith Smyth is a Labour Councillor for St Jude ward in Portsmouth and was elected in May 2018 and was re-elected in May 2022. Judith is Labour’s Spokesperson for Planning Policy & City Development and is Chair of the Planning Committee, which makes decisions about some planning applications for the city, such as for new housing developments. Judith is also a member of the Education, Children & Young People Scrutiny Panel, Governance & Audit & Standards Committee and the Schools Forum. Judith is the Chief Whip and Secretary leading on the administration of the Portsmouth Labour Group. 

 

Judith holds several roles on external bodies, including for the Southern Regional Flood & Coastal Committee and the Port Advisory Board. She has a particular focus on installing shore power at the port, sea defences, the city plan and social housing carbon reduction.

 

Outside of formal council roles, Judith is an active grandparent, enthusiastic sea swimmer and walker, is a member of GMB and Unite unions and is a longstanding member of Portsmouth Choral Union.

 

Judith runs a monthly ward surgery on every third Saturday of every month from 10am to 12 noon at Southsea Library.
